Our story

Built for seafood, by people from seafood.

Our founder grew up around this industry, close enough to see how much money moves on numbers nobody can check. Every other market has trusted data. Seafood had phone calls. Oceans of Data began where the data was: scattered across registries, providers and spreadsheets, in different formats and different quality, never joined. Five years later it goes straight into our customers' systems.

Why we exist

Finance has Bloomberg. Seafood had spreadsheets.

In seafood, the biggest buying and selling decisions still get made on a broker's phone call and yesterday's prices. Our founder grew up around that — close enough to see how much money moves on a number nobody can verify.

Scattered sources, spreadsheets, and relationships. Nobody had built a single, trusted place to see supply, demand, and pricing across species.

We began with dashboards. Then customers told us what they actually needed: the underlying data, in their own tools. That is what we build now: verified seafood data tables, delivered by API and answered in plain language by ANNA.

Today we are the data provider to seafood businesses making real pricing and trading calls every day. The goal hasn't changed: give the industry numbers it can trust, so decisions are made on data instead of guesswork.

We have been collecting, cleaning and joining seafood market data since 2021: auction prices, landings, biomass, vessel movements, trade flows, retail prices and FX, across wild and farmed species. That history is the part nobody can rebuild overnight.

The people behind the data

Anna Björk Theodórsdóttir

Founder & CEO

Grew up in a family seafood business that went from fishing to saltfish production, and became Iceland's largest saltfish exporter around 2000. Has worked the factory floor and the sales office. In seafood data since 2015. Co-founded Sea Data Center in 2018, sold in 2021. Founded Oceans of Data in 2021 and has developed every solution the company runs on. She has spent a decade on the same problem: getting the industry's numbers out of scattered sources and into the hands of the people making the calls.
