Everyone Is Watching the Quota Debate.
They're looking at the wrong chart.

Over the last year, North Atlantic mackerel landings fell by 262,000 tonnes.
That's not a policy debate.
That's a supply shock.
Landings across Iceland, Norway and the Faroe Islands fell from 393,000 tonnes to just 131,000 tonnes — a decline of nearly 67%.
The pattern is remarkably consistent. Iceland is down 72%. Norway 59%. The Faroes 73%.

The impact is already showing up in the market. Data from Norges Sildesalgslag shows average mackerel prices running nearly 10% higher than a year ago.
The market has spent years debating who gets the fish.
The data suggests a different question:
What happens when there is less fish to divide?
